Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo, also known as the "Queen of the Missions" was founded in 1720 by Father Antonio Margil de Jesús and was named for Saint Joseph. It is the largest of the Texas missions and was nearly restored to its original design in the 1930's by the WPA (Works Projects Administration).
