A hood ornament is a signature of the car, make, model, year and the owner. These are works of art in their own right.
Radiator caps in the 1920’s were usually temperature gauges as the cars tended to overheat. They evolved into works of art, and prestige, in the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s and became known as hood ornaments. The safety regulations of the 1970’s began the demise of the ornate hood ornaments.
