Torrey Pine

Torrey Pine

The Torrey Pine, Pinus torreyana, is one of the rarest, and endangered, pine trees in the world with only about 100 trees surviving in the Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve in San Diego, California. Coastal fog in spring and summer provide just enough extra moisture to supplement the low, 15”, rainfall in Southern California. A mature tree roots can extend 245 feet (75 meters).
