Union Pacific Mikado No. 2564

Union Pacific Mikado No. 2564

A Mikado (locomotive), is any steam locomotive using the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement. The 2-8-2 means it has two leading wheels, eight drive wheels and two trailing wheels. Built by Alco in 1921, this locomotive worked most of her life on Union Pacific's subsidiary the Oregon Short Line. She ended up on display in a park in Oro Grande, California. While in the park, the sprinklers caused some damage to the axels. Couple that with some residual coal that was left in the tinder and a complete restoration is probably too costly.
