Bichet School
Settled by French immigrants from 1857 to 1885, Bichet school is the last building still standing of the town of Bichet, Kansas. After fire destroyed the original school, limestone from the site was used to build this school in 1896.
Laura Keller, the first teacher, taught 19 children aged 5 to 19 for 8 months per year on a salary of $40 per month, the equivalent of about $1,500 today. With only 2 students in 1946 the school was closed.
