The Thomas Mill Covered Bridge in Wissahickon Valley Park, Pennsylvania is a Howe truss bridge invented in 1840 and widely used until the late 1800s.
While very complicated in design, they were highly economical due to ease of construction. They can be designed and framed using only 5 hand held tools. Panels or entire trusses coulde be prefabricated and transported to the site.
