Mouse Tower
Mouse Tower on a small island in the Rhine near Bingen am Rhein, Germnany. Built in the 14th century it was used as a toll collection tower. A dark medieval legend has it that Hatto II, a cruel archbishop, who oppressed and exploited the peasants in his domain, was devoured by mice as punishment for his actions during a famine in 974. The poor had run out of food, but Hatto, having all the grain stored up in his barns, used his monopoly to sell it at such high prices that most could not afford it.
Promising them food, he told them to go to an empty barn. They entered, he locked it then burned it down killing everyone inside while he derisively commented on their death cries with the words "Hear the mice squeak!"
He then retreated to his tower with thousands of mice in persuit. They ate him. Mouse Tower became legend.
Makes me think of someone else deserving of the same fate.
